World Maker Faire-NY 2017

2017-09-20 | By Kevin Walseth

With Maker Faire just around the corner, we have some pretty cool plans up our sleeve here at DigiKey. This will be our second year sponsoring both the Make Electronics stage and the Make: live stream. So, if the unfortunate event occurs and you are unable to attend this year’s faire, be sure to watch the live stream to see what you are missing (and it will be a lot).

Maker.io is DigiKey’s website aiming to help you fulfill that path from concept to production. One of the projects we have been working on in the background is a roadmap to help you through that journey. Well, we just launched it and think it’s great! Be sure to ask us about it and we can walk you through it!

We have been partnering with Adafruit and their subscription of the Adabox and we plan to have the Adabox005 at the DigiKey booth, but shhhh… we’re not going to tell you what it is just yet. Speaking of Adafruit, I’m sure you have seen the 4’ functioning Circuit Playground. We plan to bring with its sibling to Maker Faire and show you some cool functionality of the Circuit Playground Express.

Table-top CNC – Yes, we sell one from SparkFun. The Shapeoko CNC deluxe from SparkFun is a great starter CNC that is very easy to set up and use in your Makerspace. Be sure to stop on over and watch it in action. SparkFun has many, many great products we at DigiKey sell and that is why we love partnering with them. The way they can take a great product and make it even better amazes me! One thing in particular is the Micro: Bit. That have made some really great add-ons for the great low-cost platform.

One of our newest suppliers is Pimoroni. Not only do they have a great story around how their company name was created, but they have even better products. Everything from Raspberry Pi kits to funky USB cables.

As long as we’re talking new, Nordic Semiconductor has a neat Thingy:52 made for rapid prototyping. It even has a built-in air quality sensor. This Thingy is cool!

Be sure to stop at the DigiKey booth and check out all of the cool products we will have on display as well as our Special Guest who will be helping us with fun interviews and demos inside our booth. @robotmakergirl is a very amazing young woman who inspires many makers and anyone involved in STEM. If it has the word maker in the sentence, you can be sure she knows what you are talking about! Oh… did I also mention she is 12?!

Have an amazing Maker Faire and see you soon!
