Molex's full-cycle ratcheting hand tool ensures complete crimps, and its ergonomic soft-grip handles allow comfortable crimping for either right- or left-handed operation. A precision, user-friendly terminal locator wire stop holds terminals in the proper crimping position. The dies and locator from this tool can be used in the battery-powered 0638160270 (110 V) or 0638160280 (220 V) tools, with the use of the 0638160800 crimp-head. This tool is IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 2 compliant and can be used to crimp 18 AWG to 24 AWG Mini-Fit Jr. male and female crimp terminals (part numbers listed below). Due to the terminal’s insulation grip design or insulation diameter range, Molex's ratcheting hand tool uses overlap form geometry in the insulation punch, which produces an overlap insulation crimp (A-620-compliant). Although the insulation punch profile may appear lopsided, this is a normal condition for this tool.
Regular maintenance should be performed on the tool by removing dust, moisture, and other contaminants with a clean brush or a soft, lint-free cloth. All pins, pivot points, and bearing surfaces should be protected with a thin coat of high-quality machine oil, taking care not to oil excessively. The tool was engineered for durability, but like any other piece of equipment, it needs cleaning and lubrication for a maximum service life of trouble-free crimping. Light oil (such as 30-weight automotive oil) used at the oil points every 5,000 crimps or three months will significantly enhance the tool's life. When the tool is not in use, keep the handles closed to prevent objects from becoming lodged in the crimping dies, and store the tool in a clean, dry area.
