Prototyping with Solder Stencils - Another Teaching Moment | DigiKey

This video demonstrates effective methods for hand stenciling custom PCBs as well as the proper care of stencils. Solder stencils are thin sheets of metal or polymer with holes that precisely match the solder footprint of electronic components to be mounted on printed circuit boards (PCBs). Stencil thickness guarantees the correct amount of solder and the location of pads is derived from the CAD files of the PCB assuring proper placement. Standard template stencils are available for breakout boards. Learning how to apply solder paste using a stencil opens the door to designing projects using small footprint SMD devices on custom PCBs and breakout boards.
