8 A Zekeringen

Een zekering wordt gebruikt om de stroom uit te schakelen wanneer deze een bepaalde limiet overschrijdt (beveiliging tegen overstroom). Zekeringen werken door een opening te creëren in een materiaal dat zich tussen twee eindklemmen bevindt. Het materiaal smelt (brandt door) door de warmteontwikkeling in de zekering als gevolg van een te hoge stroom. De tijd die nodig is om door te branden, wordt vaak aangeduid met snel of traag.
