Soorten gelijkrichterdiodes

Standaard gelijkrichterdiodes

Standaarddiodes (Silicium PN junctie) Standaarddiodes zijn het meest basale type gelijkrichterdiode, gemaakt van silicium met een PN junctie. Ze worden vaak gebruikt in AC-naar-DC-convertors, stroomgelijkrichting en algemene circuitbeveiliging. Deze diodes hebben meestal een spanningsval van ongeveer 0,7V en zijn het meest geschikt voor laagfrequent schakelen. Hun omgekeerde hersteltijd (hoe snel ze stoppen met geleiden wanneer ze uitgeschakeld worden) is relatief traag, wat hun gebruik in hogesnelheidstoepassingen beperkt. Ze hebben ook een lage omgekeerde lekstroom, waardoor ze betrouwbaar zijn voor stationaire werking.

Schottky Barrier Diodes (SBD)
Schottky-diodes (SBD's) gebruiken een metaal-halfgeleider-junctie in plaats van een traditionele PN-junctie, wat resulteert in snellere schakelsnelheden en lagere spanningsverliezen - vaak tussen 0,2V en 0,4V. Hierdoor zijn ze ideaal voor DC-DC-convertors, voedingen met hoog rendement en schakelingen waarbij het minimaliseren van vermogensverlies van kritiek belang is. Een nadeel van SBD's is echter hun hogere omgekeerde lekstroom, vooral bij hoge temperaturen, wat een probleem kan zijn in precisieapparaten of apparaten die op batterijen werken.

Super Barrier Rectifiers (SBR)
Super Barrier Rectifiers (SBR's) combineren de beste eigenschappen van standaard diodes en Schottky diodes. Ze bieden een lage voorwaartse spanningsval zoals SBD's, maar met een aanzienlijk lagere lekstroom in sperrichting en een betere verwerking van sperspanningen. SBR's zijn zeer geschikt voor schakelende vermogensomzetters, adapters en auto-elektronica, waar energie-efficiëntie en thermische stabiliteit belangrijk zijn. Ze zijn vaak een betere keuze dan Schottky-diodes als de toepassing hogere omgevingstemperaturen of grotere spanningsovergangen met zich meebrengt.

Lawinediodes
Lawinediodes zijn ontworpen om betrouwbaar te werken in omgekeerde doorslagmodus, waarbij ze veilig stroom geleiden zodra een specifieke drempelwaarde voor omgekeerde spanning wordt overschreden. In tegenstelling tot standaard diodes die beschadigd kunnen raken door doorslag, zijn lawinediodes gebouwd om deze toestand herhaaldelijk en voorspelbaar aan te kunnen.

Siliciumcarbide (SiC) diodes
SiC-diodes zijn gemaakt van siliciumcarbide, een materiaal met een grote bandbreedte waardoor ze zeer hoge spanningen (600 V en hoger) en extreme temperaturen (> 150 °C) aankunnen. Ze zijn ideaal voor industriële convertors, laders voor elektrische voertuigen, inverters voor zonne-energie en motoraandrijvingen, vooral in circuits die snel moeten schakelen en geen reverse recovery-tijd nodig hebben. Hoewel ze duurder zijn dan diodes op siliciumbasis, maken hun duurzaamheid en efficiëntie bij hoge spanningen en frequenties ze vaak de beste keuze op lange termijn in veeleisende toepassingen.
